Self - Portraits

By M.C.Gillis

Creating self - portraits has been therapeutic for me.  It enables me to take a step back, be a bit more objective, and observe the attitudes and feelings I hold about myself. It helps me put things in perspective.  My goal is to be centered, balanced and at peace with myself. In order for things to change out there, I must first change what needs to be changed within.

Gandhi said it much more poetically,

"Be the change you want to see in the world."

The first idea for the following self-portrait series, came while in a yoga posture.  Of course I had to stop, find paper and pen, and scribble the idea down so I wouldn't forget it.  One became two, and so on; it grew.
